Elder Glenn Sawyer
Pastor

Mt. Zion Church of God in Christ
Deliverance Center
Camden, North Carolina

Elder Glenn Sawyer was a faithful and dedicated member of the Eastern Star Church of God In Christ in Elizabeth City, North Carolina for over 25 years.  A man of few words and a quiet, humble manner, he was devoted to his pastor, the late Elder Cornelius Purkett.  It was under this great leader that he was appointed Chairman of the Deacons Board, coordinator of the Men's Work, Bass Guitarist, and a father to many sons of the church.  He continued in like manner under Elder Jerry Whidbee and was an associate minister of Eastern Star COGIC.

In 1985, he established his own business, "Sawyers Home Improvement".  Throughout the Albemarle area and parts of Virginia, many homes, churches, and buildings can be seen as a result of his work.  During the 18 years he was in operation his business was well respected and complimentary for its work of Excellency.

It was at the "Star" that he heard the "Call" of God to Pastor.  It was an unction that he had rejected several times before.  He began realizing that his successes in life would take place only after his obedience to God.  Yet, the young preacher would not come to the forefront and acknowledge his call.  God held the destiny of this preacher in His hand.  His business began suffering loss, and after falling from the roof twice, he realized he was fighting a loosing battle and said YES, LORD!

He began quietly searching for a building for worship.   He was led back to his roots in the small rural-like township of Camden, North Carolina.  Here he found on Highway 343 a small building which he acquired, remolded, and made preparation to establish the church he would pastor.  God revealed the name "Mt. Zion".  Thus the first Church of God In Christ church was established in Camden.  Its motto, "GOD FIRST!" would be the motivation behind all work that would take place at Mt. Zion.  Pastor Sawyer would not seek, nor ask anyone to join.  He would only preach the gospel and trust God to add to the church such as should be saved.  God has done just that!

On March 31, 1999, Elder Sawyer was installed by the Presiding Bishop of Greater North Carolina, Bishop LeRoy Jackson Woolard.  The church serves in the Windsor District under the leadership of Superintendent Clarence Freeman.  He was appointed by Supt. Freeman as the Chairman of the District Pastors.

Pastor Sawyer follows the Vision given him by God and stand on the truth of God's word; holding fast to the principles of holiness.  In October 2004, just five years after starting the church, he and the saints at Mt. Zion, entered their new, over 1100 square feet, edifice. His congregational membership has grown from its foundation days from 25 to over 250 members. While Godly proud, he believes and teaches that all praise and glory is to God who has given him the Victory.

This is not the ending, for the Lord has spoken to Pastor Sawyer concerning, a day care, a  school, group home for girls and a recreational facility for the youth of Camden and the surrounding counties.

He has been appointed by Bishop Woolard as the Assistant Chairman of the Elders' Council of Greater North Carolina; he serves as the secretary of the Ordination Board and was recently appointed a Trustee of the Jurisdiction.  He seeks not the favor of man but believes that favor comes from God.

Far and above, Pastor Sawyer is a Gospel, Rhema Word preacher, who offers life to God's people.  He is anointed and has been endowed with a great depth of the word and a deliverance that's governed with wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. He has declared from the beginning days of his ministry, that his calling is greater than his afflictions.

Pastor Sawyer is married to the "Fragrance of Zion", First Lady Sandra Sawyer, and has 1 son, 2 daughters, 2 sons-in-law, 1 daughter-in-law and 5 grandchildren.
